Detroit pastor blows away disgruntled worshipper

Detroit made Gawker again.

Usually, when that happens, it means something controversial has happened to make Hitsville, U.S.A into the ultimate click-bait.

In this case, the hits weren't chart-topping songs but life-ending bullets. And what made this instance so very interesting was the setting — a storefront church — and the shooter, a pastor blasting away at a would-be worshipper reportedly armed with a brick and a hammer.

The storefront church was City of God ministries on Grand River Avenue near Lahser. The man with the brick was Deante Smith, who had allegedly posted a rant on Facebook accusing the pastor of impregnating his wife. He walked into an afternoon service at the church around 1:45 p.m. yesterday.

The Christian pastor opted to not take the advice of Jesus the Nazarene and "turn the other cheek" — which makes sense when that cheek is confronted with a brick and a hammer. Instead, this disciple of the Prince of Peace pulled out his own piece — a Glock handgun — and fired four or five shots, dispatching this troubled soul to the hereafter.

To get the full details on the story, see a piece written by George Hunter and James David Dickson in The Detroit News.
