If there's a high-priced PR team behind Eminem right now their jobs probably don't need to exist. The Detroit representative seems to be in the news every other day at this point for something he's genuinely accomplished without any exaggeration or hype. After already becoming the first person to amass 30 million Facebook fans
beating out Justin Beiber and Lady Gaga as the most popular artist on the social networking site, he's now got the distinction of being the first hip-hop artists to have two albums certified as diamond. The Recording Institute Association of America (RIAA) announced recently that Eminem's much lauded album, The Marshall Mathers LP
has sold 10 million units in the U.S. alone. The album was released back in 2000 and sold roughly 1.7 million units in the first week that it debuted. 11 years later, it's gone diamond.
This is the second time that Eminem hasn't gotten this kind of news this year since just a month ago, his third album, The Eminem Show, was also certified diamond from the RIAA. He's got a big summer ahead of him as he'll be headlining most of the nation's major music festival (Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, etc.) and also announced earlier this week that he'll be releasing a new EP with fellow Detroiter Royce Da 5'9 entitled Bad Meets Evil due out in early June. What's the popular T-shirt and sticker floating around the city say: Detroit Hustles Harder. It looks that way.
