Most people may only know Jeff Daniels as Jim Carrey's opposite in Dumb and Dumber (and the excellently-titled upcoming sequel, Dumb and Dumber To). However, in addition to roles in films like Looper and the HBO show the Newsroom — as well as working as a playwright and founder of his hometown Chelsea's Purple Rose Theatre — Daniels is also a songwriter. Fans curious about Daniels' musical chops can check him out as part of an upcoming seven-date engagement.

"Jeff Daniels Onstage & Unplugged" comes to the Purple Rose Theatre from Friday, Dec. 26 through Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, where Daniels will perform "an arsenal of songs that are alternately humorous and poignant." Two special benefit performances include "a mid-performance Question & Answer opportunity with Mr. Daniels" (on Saturday, Dec. 27, and a New Year’s-themed buffet dinner at the Chelsea Comfort Inn & Village Conference Center).

All performances will be at The Purple Rose Theatre Company, 137 Park Street, Chelsea; purplerosetheatre.org; 734-433-7673. Check out the event page for ticket prices and the full schedule.
