New York-based indie duo Cults have found a way to balance infectious indie sentimentality with a subtle air of synthetic dark magic. Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin lace Cults’ sound with an antigravity quality, thanks to shimmering arrangements and atmospheric vocals — it’s as if the Drive soundtrack took Molly in a graveyard. Only three records deep and Cults already lured us into a forever membership.
Cults will play Marble Bar on Saturday, Oct. 21. Doors open at 8 p.m.; 1501 Holden St., Detroit; 313-338-3674; Tickets are $19 in advance, $21 day of show.
