New Zealand musician Aldous Harding describes herself as a “gothic folk” singer and songwriter whose fantastic debut album 4AD, which was released two years ago, was produced by other great musicians, including PJ Harvey. Harding’s latest album Party was just released this year and is the haunting follow-up that fans would expect. Harding’s stage presence needs to be noted. She’s an excellent performer, dancing in a trance that Stevie Nicks would appreciate. She’s definitely gothic, but she’s also sort of peppy at times, and not a dreary, lulling constantly spooky singer. Harding has promise, and Party is a great record.
