The unofficial prince of avant-garde lo-fi, L.A.-based multi-instrumentalist Ariel Pink returned this year with his eleventh studio record, Dedicated to Bobby Jameson. A continuation of his nuanced, surrealist take on the chill wave genre, Ariel Pink’s latest record follows his journey into the ether (or the hazy streets of L.A. or a sleepless subway ride). Pink’s exploration of hauntology (yeah, it’s a thing) is just one of the many creative quirks that has made him one of the most influential “hypnagogic pop” artists in the DIY movement.
