Metro Times is mighty proud to host this year's annual convention for the Association of Alternative Newsmedia (AAN), which runs Thursday, June 7, through Saturday, June 9, at downtown Detroit's Westin Book Cadillac Hotel. There'll be guest speakers at the many workshops and exhibits, including Wayne Kramer and Grace Lee Boggs alongside vet journalists and mobile-digital media experts.

The event also hosts the national AltWeekly Awards, which honors superior journalism and graphic design among alternative publications across the United States and Canada. This year five Metro Times writers are up for awards: Brian Smith, Curt Guyette, John Carlisle (Detroitblogger John), Jack Lessenberry and Larry Gabriel. Pretty sweet. See aan.org for more info.
