If you know of 26-year-old Majid at all, it's likely because of his company, Eli Tea, and his Eli Tea Bar (108 S. Old Woodward Ave., Birmingham; 866-567-1988), both of which specialize in unusual tea that is locally sourced when possible. But Majid has a background in ethnobotany, which is the study of how people use plants, especially traditional folkways. Majid says it plays into his work as a maker of tea, which he characterizes as "one part science, one part culture." If rave reviews are any clue, he knows his stuff.
