3930 Cass Ave., Detroit; 313-831-3830
Its origins in the mid-1970s as a hangout for Vietnam vets which let punk bands play there mean that the Miami has been called "the CBGBs of the Midwest." And while there might still be punk and country on the jukebox, in the last few years the Old Miami has been home to the best hip-hop club shows in town, thanks in large part to the Blue Collar Gentlemen. In the warmer months the patio is the place to be, with a spacious yard, bonfires, and outdoor furniture. It can be easy to forget you're in Midtown.
