Best Place to Meet Your Neighbors

Public House; 241 W. Nine Mile Rd., Ferndale; 248-850-7420

Staff Pick

Since its opening last June, we’ve been to Ferndale’s Public House at least a dozen times and have never failed to strike up a conversation with fellow diners at the bar, or, on slower days, the friendly waitstaff and management. A large part of why this is easier than at other restaurants is the prominent lack of TVs — general manager and co-owner Jeff King, also a co-owner at TV-free Woodward Imperial, says this was a conscious decision to get people talking to each other and create a sense of community. Of course, the ever-changing menu of creative appetizers and sandwiches provides a topic of conversation as well, as diners pepper each other with “Ooh, what is that?” FYI, Public House just added a new way to bond with your neighbors — over brunch, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.
