For some, the human face has so much information it is overwhelming, confusing, and even frightening. Jan Brown studies them, along with the body, and finds ways to simplify them in ghostlike abstractions. Her large canvases experiment with adding and removing figures so often only traces remain, a metaphor for our own brief time as a person.
