Could Highland Park be Detroit’s next hot artist community? It certainly has a strong contender for one of the region’s largest and most interesting galleries with the recently-minted 333 Midland. The 20,000 square-foot former auto factory begs to filled with grand works of art, which is exactly what show curator Robert Sestok did with Big Paintings at the Factory, the aptly-named debut show that opened earlier this summer. The show features large-scale works by a wide array, from old-guard Cass Corridor-ites to current street artists. The show ends with a bang, featuring music by Jimmy Ohio and the Ultimate Lovers, The Hygrades, Deadbeat Beat, Molly Jean, J. Walker and the Crossguards, and The Adrays, with DJ Adam Stanfel spinning 45s between sets.
