Few things evoke as much terror as the thought of a blind pilot. But, for these Portland-based indie crooners, the image represents what the group thought was akin to accepting a career in music. The group set itself apart when they embarked on a bicycle tour —like a tour, on bikes — in 2008 to promote their debut record 3 Rounds of Sound, during which time they carried their instruments on custom bike trailers they fashioned themselves. Basically, they’re committed to coloring outside of the lines. After a 2016 tour supporting fellow cry-rocker Vance Joy, Blind Pilot is manning their own plane this time around.
