A culture change premise is relationship is foundational to transforming culture. The institutional model shuns friendships when in fact there are obvious benefits to promoting relationship/friendship between staff members, between residents and between staff and residents. Only in relationship can one truly be known which leads to both connectedness and good care. Research shows that building relationships contributes to recruitment and decreased turnover; in other words, saved money and a lot less stress for everyone.
