One often wonders where rappers come up with their rap names. For example, Curren$y was born Shante Scott Franklin. Perhaps the New Orleans-based artist was looking for a tougher moniker that would allow him to accrue some actual street cred. The name seems to have worked. He has his own imprint at Warner Bros. Records called Jet Life Recordings, and along with rapping, has signed artists like Smoke DZA, Fiend, and Mr. Marcelo.
