Damn democracy

Seems John Engler has his skivvies all twisted over the fact that union members working for the Big Three automakers were given the day off to vote last week.

Several staffers at the Metro Times who caught Big John’s post-election comments on public radio last week were astounded by the guv’s comments.

According to press accounts, Engler described the contract concession that gave autoworkers time off on Election Day as “the largest single corporate contribution in American history.”

Oh, the horror! Working men and women being granted a holiday so that they can go to the polls and work phones to encourage others to engage in the democratic process — what’s this country coming to? Next thing you know, the bastards will be demanding campaign finance reform.
