When it comes to midtempo, country-inflected, heartfelt, indie country-rock, you can throw a horseshoe anywhere white people congregate these days. And half a dozen people right near that person you just knocked out with your careless act will themselves be in indie country-folksy bands. But where those bands can’t hold a match to a dollar-bin Poco record, Daniel and the Lion have much more to offer: a terrific and lush instrumentation, a singer who can sing without even trying, and actual songs you want to hear multiple times in a row. Bravo.
