A cousin to ever-popular stand-up comedy, improv really doesn’t get its due. This festival, which will feature performances as well as workshops, seeks to even the playing field between the two entertainment platforms. The festival will kick off with a fundraising event at the Boll Family YMCA featuring members of the Detroit Creativity Project, followed by performances featuring troops from Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Toronto, including Date Night, Orange Tuxedo, Stir-Friday Night!, Snooze Button, Bottle of Red, the Elastic Time Cannon, and others. Two workshops are already sold out, but classes led by Cara Trautman, Jay Reid, and others are still available. Times vary, check detroitimprovfestival.org; Full festival tickets are $115, individual activity tickets are also available.
