DLECTRICITY is a nighttime outdoor festival of art and light that showcases the work of emerging and established artists, architects and industrial designers in the Cultural Corridor of Midtown Detroit. Thirty-six international, national and local artists have been commissioned to illuminate the Woodward corridor, from the Detroit Institute of Arts down to the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, with cutting-edge installations of light, video, performance, interactive engineering and other unexpected works of art.
Rashaad Newsome “King of Arms” Procession that launches DLECTRICITY on Friday, September 23, at 7PM. This is a New Orleans style parade that will circle around the DIA.
Family-Friendly “Electric Park” on the lawn of the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), showcasing 3 interactive art installations by Carrie Morris Productions, DMET Design and Arts & Scraps.
DLECTRICITY’s Light Bike Parade is scheduled for Saturday, September 23. Staging begins at 6PM on Wayne State University’s Gullen Mall, and the ride begins at dark. Philadelphia-based Klip Collective will have an amazing 3D video projection on the facade of the Detroit Public Library. Their project “The Librarian” will bring a parable for the Information Age, an interactive story projected onto the facade of the Detroit Public Library about a chaotic shift for a librarian that unfolds for observers through x-ray viewers.
Bluewater Technologies’ “Luminaria Magna” is a massive 25’ by 25’ square lightbox structure connected to pressure pads on the dance floor, turntables and other interactive elements that each control a different characteristic of the light. Local DJs will perform as festival visitors dance and engage with “Luminaria Magna” to create a unique display of energy efficient LED light.
