The story Iraqi-American poet Dunya Mikhail reveals in her upcoming book, The Beekeeper: Rescuing the Stolen Women of Iraq, details the true story of a beekeeper who put his life on the line to rescue enslaved women from Daesh. In support of the book, available for pre-sale at the event, Mikhail will open the celebration of women writers with a poetry reading. The jessica Care moore Quartet will perform songs from moore’s latest record, Black Tea: The Legend of Jessi James. Female and nonbinary poets, rappers, and singer-songwriters are invited to participate in the open mic session following the performance.
