As a youth in rural Mississippi during the 1950s and ‘60s, Walker was intimate with impoverished black life. After graduating college in the late ‘60s, he stuck around, teaching at a baptist church under the direction of the enigmatic preacher Reverend Louis Cole. A decade later, after honing his craft, Walker returned to Marshall County, Mississippi to document the preacher and his congregation. The results are both intimate and intense.
