The first Third Man Books shindig in Detroit at their new store is an absolute barnburner. You’ve got a diverse selection of some of the area’s strongest poets: Tarfia Faizullah, Jamaal May, and Jennifer Nelson are each super accomplished and top of their game. And acoustic guitarist Todd Albright will play his 12-string fingerpicked country blues in celebration of his imminent full-length on Jett Plastic. It’s a release party event for the ‘zine Life is a Rip Off Part One, which collects those hilarious and on-the-money reviews that Wolf Eyes’ John Olson (he’s on the left in that photo there) posted on his American Tapes website. On top of all of that, it’s the release party for a nifty photo book by the Dirtbombs’ Patrick Pantano, which chronicles Detroit’s music scene as well as his life on the road with that fabulous band. Don’t let the worst snowstorm keep you from this one.
