When: Fri., May 29, 7 p.m. 2015
Musician and painter Johnny Chan was born in Troy, lived in Detroit a spell, and has called Brooklyn home for years now. Returning to town to take up residency at the Scarab Club, Chan has painted dozens of portraits in oil of Detroit musical royalty. Motown deservedly gets tons of praise and press, but to many music cognoscenti, the best label that Detroit ever produced is the alluring and generously genre-defying Fortune Records. These many paintings pay tribute. The evening will roll into the Stoke-On-Campau soul club, which starts at 10 p.m. Exhibition starts at 7 p.m.
