Raised between the homes of a Detroit schoolteacher and an Upper Peninsula outdoorsman, Joshua Davis is the product of both city and country. An early interest in songwriting, country blues, and fingerstyle guitar paved the way for original material that's a seamless union of new and old. After six years and several albums as the primary songwriter and vocalist of the Michigan quartet Steppin’ in It, Joshua has gone on to an impressive solo career. He writes songs that blend the roots of American music with gritty rock 'n' roll and vintage soul, and Performing Songwriter magazine called the result "some of the liveliest and most rocking roots music around." Joshua has performed live on the internationally syndicated programs Mountain Stage, Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour, and Backstage Pass—not to mention The Voice. His songs have been featured on NPR's All Songs Considered, Folk Alley, and The Mix, and he has played just about every festival Michigan has to offer and scores of prestigious ones beyond. Joshua comes to The Ark with a new album, "The Way Back Home."
