The koi pond between the Belle Isle Aquarium and Conservatory is one of my favorite places in Detroit. The colorful fish will practically nip your toes if you stand close enough to the water’s edge. Come spring, the Belle Isle Conservancy usually hosts a koi transfer when the fish are moved from an indoor pool to their summer home, but this year things will be a little different as the Conservancy works to make the pond a sustainable home for the fish year-long. So, they’re hosting this special Koi Festival that will feature Japanese-inspired arts and crafts, food, and more.
