If you’ve ever peered into the pond between the Belle Isle Aquarium and the Conservatory, you’ve spotted the colorful — and quite large — koi that live inside that pond. This robust and gregarious population of fish (they’ll practically nip at your toes if you stand near the edge of the pond), spend their summers here, but must be moved once the weather turns colder. The Belle Isle Conservancy welcomes volunteers to help move the fish from pond to their winter home inside the aquarium. Bring a five-gallon bucket or a large Rubbermaid tote to help transfer the fish.
