Though he was born in Magnolia, Ark., McCray moved to Saginaw at the tender age of 12 and later worked for General Motors. The line work didn’t keep him from performing with his brothers as a trio, touring the local club circuit. Years later, in 1991, he recorded his debut album, Ambition, in a recording studio in his friend’s basement. It would be the first in a decades-long career of blues music the singer would make.
