Meryl Waldo (aka Scout) breaks down her style

Weekly Detroit street fashion.

Redheaded bombshell Meryl Waldo caught our eye in the crowd at the Movement Electronic Music Festival last weekend. A DJ herself, Waldo regularly spins as her alias “Scout” at MGM Grand Detroit’s V Nightclub, as well as at Live and Aventura in Ann Arbor, where she resides. Waldo studied theater design in college, which she says makes her a detail freak — a search for the perfect font for her custom “Scout” necklace led her to tracking down a particular Slovakian artist to design it. She describes her look as vintage meets contemporary, saying she likes the ’40s and the ’50s, but she puts her own spin on it so it doesn’t look too much like a costume. She likes MAC makeup products and gets her hair done at Fran Coy’s Salon in Ann Arbor, and goes thrift shopping around AA at the ReUse Center, the Get Up Vintage, and the PTO Thrift Shop. “I also like to buy tight, sexy shit when I DJ,” she says, “which you can’t really find in thrift stores.”
