About four years ago, some of the brightest, funniest, and most talented women writers working in theater, TV, and movies contributed a variety of monologues that became known as the play Motherhood Out Loud. Since then, it’s been performed in venues across the country. Now, just in time for Mother’s Day, it gets a staged reading at the Matrix, with individual monologues concerning pivotal parenting moments — such as birth, the first day of school, “the talk,” the first date, and more — performed by a small cast of readers. In an intimate setting like the Matrix Theatre, it should leave the parent in your life walking out with a smile.
