Old News

It sounded like a scoop, anyway. We’re talking a front-page story in last Thursday’s Detroit News about the controversial land deal out at the State Fairgrounds. After reporting that the deal was dead, the first paragraph ended with a self-important “the Detroit News learned …” signaling to readers that the info was the product of some newshound’s hard digging.

Maybe it was. Or the News could have “learned” of the latest twist in the tangled deal the same way we here at News Hits did — by reading about it in the edition of Crain’s Detroit Business published three days earlier.
