When: Fri., Oct. 10, 8 p.m. 2014
The founding fathers of jazz were, of course, from the Crescent City. And since 1961, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has carried the mantle of traditional New Orleans jazz. Along with legendary Big Easy producer, arranger, and songwriter Allen Toussaint, the boys are back to town this Friday for a special show at Music Hall. New Orleans native and longtime Detroiter Charlie Gabriel, 82, plays that old licorice stick like nobody else. Don’t miss these icons of American music. Special meet-and-greet afterglow event at the Jazz Café inside Music Hall, hosted by Detroit’s own Gabriel Brass Band.
