Book reading

Rami Shamir

When: Wed., May 20, 7 p.m. 2015

Shamir, visiting from Brooklyn, New York, will be reading with Danielle Etienne and Bill Harris, as part of the Woodward Line Poetry Series. His celebrated book Train to Pokipse (Circles International, 2010) is essentially a gay coming-of-age story, with a lot of sex and drugs, but its appeal is far beyond that of the edgy memoir. In fact, Grove publisher Barney Rosset is said to have called the book “a Catcher in the Rye for the new century.” Bookish friends back East relay that Shamit, a onetime member of the Occupy movement, is a generous reader too.
