Record Review: First Aid Kit — Stay Gold

Swedish folk duo makes major label debut.

First Aid Kit
Stay Gold

The first major label release from this Swedish folk duo composed of sisters Johanna and Klara Soderberg, Stay Gold, is an apt name for this country-and-western-inspired record that features rolling tunes like the album’s opening track “Silver Lining.” You’d never know from the twang in these sisters’ vocals that they don’t hail from the foothills of Appalachia. Instrumentation is lush, painting a beautifully verdant image when matched with the fibrous, Cat Power-like voices of the sisters. From beginning to end, this album is a joy to listen to, especially for the everyday folk music lover.
