RENE LICHTMAN
A retrospective 1960-2017, Paintings, collages
I wanted to see what over 50 years of my painting would look like, so decided on this show.
As a painter, I have always worked in the abstract tradition, beginning with Expressionist influences but then moving into the Geometric realm. My early painting, 1960’s, 70’s, was influenced by the “New York School” and the early Russian Constructivists. Eventually people like Rothko and Diebenkorn influenced me because they combined the geometric tradition with a “softer” more individual “painterly touch.” It is this quality which I strive for today, combined with structure, harmony.
