Opera, shmopera — Rigoletto is a masterpiece of a stage performance and one of Giuseppe Verdi’s most celebrated works. To make it a little less stuffy, it’s been updated by Jonathan Miller to be set in Little Italy during the 1950s. Titular character Rigoletto finds himself at odds with a powerful mafia boss and the rest is a tale of tragedy and vengeance — doesn’t sound so stuffy now, does it?
Show starts at 7:30 p.m on Saturday and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday; 1526 Broadway St., Detroit; 313-237-7464; michiganopera.org; Tickets start at $35.
