Guest Lecturer, Dr. Justin Sledge. The Bible is unequivocal: the practice of magic is utterly forbidden. Yet, the archaeological and literary records reveal that magic, in many forms, thrived in virtually all layers of ancient monotheistic society. This lecture will discuss how ancient Judaism and Christianity hovered between a developing monotheism and other, sometimes even malevolent, supernatural forces.
