While many will scour their local markets and roadside florists for the perfect arrangement, hanging basket, or perennial flat in preparation for Mothers Day, for others it’s a bit more complicated. In fact, for many, it’s a downright difficult day. To shed light on the complexities of the mother-child relationship is "Songs and Stories My Mother Taught Me," curated by Patricia Wheeler of The Moth StorySLAM and Moth Radio Hour and Russian-American singer-songwriter and pianist, Sonya Belaya. Backed by a seven-piece band Songs and Stories is composed by Belaya and explores motherhood, identity, and healing through the experience of her mother’s disappearance. Belaya will also be joined by storytellers, including Wheeler, Satori Shakoor, Dameon Wilburn, and Shannon Cason.
