The Color Purple is a classic tome that’s been devoured by Americans since it was published in 1982. Alice Walker’s novel snatched up a Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Award for Fiction. Now, fans can experience the text in a whole new way — this “re-imagining” includes a powerful score filled with jazz, ragtime, blues, and gospel music, and has been heralded as a “glory to behold.” The revival will tell the story of Celie, a black woman from the South who overcomes a life of rape and abuse to ultimately find her own happiness.
