Seeing The Nutcracker at the Detroit Opera House is something of a tradition. Each year 100 professional dancers and local children take the stage to tell Tchaikovsky’s classic tale of a young girl, a toy soldier, and an evil rat king. Get there early to take a tour of the opulent venue, peruse the gift shop, and enjoy the holiday splendor. Kids can see Santa Claus and pet live reindeer during every matinee performance, plus Arts and Scraps will host crafts in the lobby and Treat Dreams will prepare a special, holiday-themed ice cream sample. If that doesn’t sound like fun for the whole family, we don’t know what does.
