The Obsessives were originally inspired by other “the” bands like the White Stripes and the Black Keys before they had released any music, according to their Facebook page. The young duo from Philadelphia have been making music together since they were 15 back in 2012 (yup, that young) but their age doesn’t set them back on their debut album Heck No, Nancy. On record, they sound like a polished band that has been playing together for 15-plus years. There are emo-inspired guitar riffs with coming-of-age lyrics reminiscent of emo bands from 10 years ago. The Obsessives are joined by Household on tour, a Minneapolis melodic-punk band that just released their debut album, Time Spent in September.
