This opera by Mieczyslaw Weinberg is about a West German diplomat and his wife traveling by boat to Brazil for a new assignment. Little does he know, his wife is a former SS officer who served at Auschwitz and another passenger’s presence haunts her. The powerful opera explores guilt, denial, lies, true, fear, courage, and a host of other human emotions, making it a powerful and often heart-wrenching production. It will be sung in Polish, German, Russian, French, Yiddish, Czech, and English with projected subtitles.
