Merrill Garbus’ worldbeat project, Tune-Yards, has been garnering huge critical acclaim since its first release, 2009’s Bird-Brains. The follow-up album, 2011’s Who Kill, made it to the number one spot on the Village Voice’s Pazz and Jop top albums list. Garbus’ refreshing, innovative approach to creating music is largely responsible for all the attention and success. The newest album, Nicky Nack, is just as impressive.
