Up South – Reflections of the Great Migration

When: Sun., Nov. 24, 3-5 p.m. 2019

The industrial North was the site of the largest population migration in U.S. history. Early 20th century saw African Americans and others move from southern agricultural states to Highland Park and Detroit to escape the perils of Jim Crow and search of a better future; bringing with them music traditions of spirituals, blues and jazz and deeply held values of family. Up South is a celebration of these sojourners through the lens of one family, featuring music, spoken word and imagery.
