OK — if you fall into the camp of folks who frequently defend R.E.M.’s 1994 record Monster as one of the most underrated alt-rock records of the ’90s, you might want to get your fix with Detroit’s Vazum. Heavily influenced by a confluence of post-punk and new wave a la Depeche Mode, Sisters of Mercy, and Bauhaus, Vazum’s Zach Piska, Zachary Anderson, and Michael O’Conner channel the discordance of Interpol while maintaining a droning-destitution of their own making. Joining the lineup is George Morris, former frontman of the Satin Peaches, and his Gypsy Chorus, as well as heavy-psych rockers VSTRS.
