It lives! It's been awhile since the Detroit Red Wings missed the playoffs: the team clinched their 23rd consecutive playoff berth this week, the longest such streak in professional sports.

And, as you can expect, life was exceptionally different back in 1990. Sports Illustrated's Extra Mustard blog offers a rundown today on what was relevant when the Wing's last missed the playoffs. Here's a few examples:

  • Gas was $1.16 a gallon

It's hard to remember, but there was a time when it cost less than $20 to fill up a 4-door sedan.

  • Nintendo released the first Gameboy

Between Zelda and Tetris, the Gameboy wasn't all that bad!

There's more examples over at the Extra Mustard blog here.
