In light of President Barack Obama's State of the Union address this week, Politico magazine released its second annual rankings of all 50 states plus the District of Columbia.
How much of a powerhouse is Michigan? According to Politico's data crunching, the state nestled into the 34th slot
The online outlet's inaugural list in 2014 drew a heated response from states who fared miserably, Politco says, including a personal letter from the governor of Mississippi, which earned a poor showing of last place.
In a piece titled, "The State of Our Union ... Are Not All Strong,"
Politico says it used the most recent data available from the Census Bureau, FBI, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to highlight figures like annual per capita income, unemployment rates, life expectancy at birth, infant mortality rates, high school graduate rates, obesity rates, poverty levels, and more — then compared each states' data with each other.
