Arab-American nonprofit releases statement about the Orlando shooting

In the wake of the disgusting attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando, the Arab-American nonprofit ACCESS has released a statement, hoping to unite two consistently marginalized groups that are far too often the victims of such heinous crimes as the devastating mass shooting.

"We at ACCESS are devastated by the recent, horrific attack in Orlando. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, and we extend our deepest sympathies to LGBTQ communities throughout the country, who have suffered greatly in their fight for equal rights and against homophobia. The LGBTQ community has been essential in every movement for justice, and has stood fast with the Arab and Muslim communities in fighting for a more just and equitable society."

We’re proud to serve the LGBTQ community of metro Detroit, and we’re proud to stand with our LGBTQ brothers and sisters today."

ACCESS states its missions as, "Grounded in a grassroots commitment to serving our community, ACCESS has a 45-year history of providing health, education, employment and social services. An Arab American nonprofit of excellence, ACCESS empowers communities in Southeast Michigan to improve their economic, social and cultural well-being and extends this mission nationally through advocacy, arts, culture and philanthropy."
