A former Shinola employee was sentenced to a year in federal prison on Wednesday for stealing more than 500 watches from the luxury watch company and selling them on the black market.

The former employee, Judith Walker, worked as a quality inspector at the company's Detroit factory from 2012 to 2017, and began stealing watches returned to the company for repairs as early as 2015.

Walker will serve a 366-day sentence and is eligible for a reduced stay with good behavior. She also owes $331,000 in restitution.

According to the AP, Walker's attorney says Walker, a mother of five, stole the watches because she was "financially strapped," and was "deeply ashamed" of her actions.
