Enjoy an a la carte pop-up brunch with 'Corktown Jesse' tomorrow

The name "Corktown Jesse" almost sounds like it might belong to a bandit, but the creative pop-up chef's game is giving, not taking. Actually, Jesse Knott is his name, and he tells us, "Somebody suggested I use a user name online, and it just took on a life of its own. It’s not anything I meant to be secretive about."

If anything, the moniker has helped fuel this upstart's fame. But underneath it all, he has the skills to back it up. He recently did a pop-up at Motor City Wine that showed off his artistry with cheese, for which he turned his hand to a house-made batch of ricotta, jazzed up with some specialties from DeVries and Co.

Curious? You'll have the opportunity to enjoy his artistry for brunch tomorrow, Saturday, April 25. Starting at 10 a.m., he'll be catering to the Eastern Market shopping crowd with a special pop-up at Detroit City Distillery. He intends to serve food until about 3 p.m., earlier if food runs out.

What's on the menu? Beets and ricotta (pictured above), with roasted beets, hand-made ricotta, pistachios, mint, and arugula with a toasted baguette ($9). There's an "Opa! Melt" of braised lamb, flambéed Kasseri cheese, and chermoulaon a brioche bun ($12). Adjustable for vegans, there's a harissa chickpea stew, with spicy chickpeas, roasted cauliflower,
cilantro raita, and a soft scramble ($11). Feast on the "City Plate" of buttery polenta, Menchego cheese, collards and hot sauce with two eggs done sunny ($11). Heck even the egg sandwich sounds special, scrambles with cheddar, smoked paprika aioli, and sunflower sprouts ($8). 

All in all, it sounds like Jesse has some serious tricks up his sleeve, and shoppers will be treated to some terrific mid-morning fortification.
