When the company that would become Better Made Snack Foods got its start back in the 1930s, the technological landscape was completely different. As MT
's Michael Jackman learned while touring the company's Detroit factory last year
, "Chip companies had none of the gizmos on display in Better Made’s modern plant, and many of them were immigrant families who cooked them in a kettle at home." You couldn't buy potato chips in stores, only from street vendors. In fact, Better Made's founders got their start selling their chips outside of movie theaters, which apparently hadn't yet realized they could get away with massively overcharging on popcorn and soft drinks.
Today, Better Made has made finding their chips even easier with the release of the new Better Made potato chip app, available from the iTunes App Store for Apple devices and Google Play Store for Android devices.
With the app, Better Made fans can use GPS technology to locate the nearest store that sells Better Made products ... and, well, that's about it, really. You can also use the app to order chips, beef jerky, Better Made-branded apparel, and other items.
"This app is a first in this industry and a lot of fun to have,” Better Made president Mark Winkelman says in a press release. “We’ve been working on it for a while and wanted to release it as part of our 85th anniversary year. Customers don’t have to go from store to store hoping to find our products, they can simply look on the app.”
O brave new world!
